Efforts to protect Red Rock Wildlife Management Area

Our conservation chair will be meeting with Mesilla Valley Audubon Society (MVAS)’s Conservation Chair and New Mexico Game & Fish personnel in December at the Red Rock Wildlife Management Area (WMA) to discuss the possibility of fencing off additional parts of its riparian area to prevent further damage by livestock. This WMA’s primary purpose is to maintain the state’s bighorn sheep population, however there is good public access to the rest of the WMA. BASWNM and MVAS hope to highlight the value of this area for many avian species, particularly during spring migration.
