Make Your Backyard Count

As the days grow shorter and winter settles into southwestern New Mexico, it’s a great time to turn your attention to the birds visiting your feeders. Cornell Lab's Project FeederWatch is a community science program that invites birders of all experience levels to count birds at feeders, in yards, and in other places where birds gather.

Simply choose your observation spot, count the birds you see, and submit your observations. You can participate as your schedule allows—even a little time spent watching birds can make a difference! Your observations help scientists track changes in bird populations, distribution, and winter behavior across North America.

Whether you’re spotting familiar House Finches and Dark-eyed Juncos or discovering an unexpected visitor, your counts contribute to a much bigger picture of bird conservation. This winter, join birders across the continent in making every bird count! Learn more and sign up at Project FeederWatch
